Today is National Streaming Day (as if streaming channels need a holiday), so Disney+ has some news to divulge. There’s a new animated series headed to the streamer next month, and it centers on a beloved character from “Big Hero 6.”
“Baymax!” follows the affable, inflatable healthcare companion robot on six all-new adventures doing what he’s programmed to do–help people. And while the setting for the show remains the fantastical San Fransokyo, Baymax’s new series has him helping out regular people.
“I thought it would be fun to do a Disney+ series with Baymax interacting with normal folks,” said series creator Don Hall, who helmed 2014’s Oscar®-winning film “Big Hero 6,” in a press release provided by Disney+. “In each of our six episodes, Baymax just wants to help someone—and a lot of times, they don’t want to be helped. He sets out to fix a physical issue that he’s identified, and in the process, gets to a deeper, more emotional place and can be almost transformative in that role.”
Scott Adsit returns to provide the voice of Baymax. Other voice talent includes Ryan Potter, Maya Rudolph, Emily Kuroda, Lilimar, Zeno Robinson, and Jaboukie Young-White.
Roy Conli and Bradford Simonsen produce “Baymax!.” Dean Wellins, Lissa Treiman, Dan Abraham, and Mark Kennedy share co-directing duties for the six-episode series. Cirocco Dunlap scripts each episode.
Check out the return of everyone’s favorite healthcare robot when “Baymax!” hits Disney+ on June 29. Watch the trailer for the series below.
