What’s one way to freshen up horror’s haunted house and home invasion sub-genres? How about a double-booked rental home with a secret door in the basement that leads to a pit full of missing people?
That’s what the premise looks like for “Barbarian,” a new horror film coming this summer from 20th Century Studios and New Regency. The movie stars Georgina Campbell as a woman who discovers the rental she booked already has Bill Skarsgård staying there and decides to stay the night anyway. Of course, nothing good comes from this.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis:
In “Barbarian,” a young woman traveling to Detroit for a job interview books a rental home. But when she arrives late at night, she discovers that the house is double-booked, and a strange man is already staying there. Against her better judgment, she decides to spend the evening but soon discovers that there’s a lot more to fear than just an unexpected house guest.
Alongside Campbell and Skarsgård, “Barbarian” also stars Justin Long, Matthew Patrick Davis, Richard Brake, Kurt Braunohler, and Jaymes Butler. Zach Cregger writes and directs the film, his feature directorial debut. Audiences know Cregger best as one of the founding members of the comedy troupe The Whitest Kids U’ Know and sitcoms like “Friends With Benefits” and “Wrecked.”
