Got a Tip?

‘Deadpool 3’: Jennifer Garner Set To Reprise Elektra Role After Nearly 20 Years

As the rumors have suggested so far, it’s starting to look like Marvel’sDeadpool 3” will host a cornucopia of cameos from the 20th Century era of Marvel. The third, currently unofficially titled “Deadpool” movie will already feature a long-dreamt-for crossover between Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson and “X-Men” actor Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. But now, we’re getting more than simply just a return of existing “X-Men” actors in the third installment.

A new casting update hailing from The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that actress Jennifer Garner is now set to reprise her sai-wielding heroine Elektra. Her character famously comes back from the dead and has a deep connection to the infamous evil ninja clan, The Hand, which has ties to multiple criminal syndicates/villains in Marvel Comics, including The Kingpin.

Garner previously worked with both Reynolds and director Shawn Levy on the time-travel action comedy film “The Adam Project,” where the actress played the mother of Reynolds’ character. Garner played the Elektra role in both the first “Daredevil” feature film with future ex-husband Ben Affleck in 2003. She also landed a much-forgotten-about solo “Elektra” spinoff movie released in theaters in 2005.

Other actors that are on the R-rated superhero film’s call sheet include Emma Cornin, Matthew MacFadyen, Morena Baccarin, Brianna Hildebrand, Shiloi Kutsuna, Karan Soni, Leslie Uggams, Stefan Kapicic, and Rob Delaney. Writers credited for the current incarnation of the script are Reynolds, Levy, Paul Wernick, Rhett Reese, and Zeb Wells.

Without naming any names, the outlet also speculates —as is the big rumor on the Interwebs these days— that many more Fox/Marvel era cameos will work their way into what everyone suspects is a Multiverse-centric pic. Most pundits, including ourselves, believe “Deadpool 3” will give the Fox universe—perhaps more characters from films like previous “Fantastic Four” films and the various “X-Men” movies— a proper send-off as Wade enters the central 616 universe by the film’s end. It could be a proper goodbye ahead of Marvel bringing mutants into the MCU with their upcoming Mutant Saga reboot. “Deadpool 3” is currently filming in the United Kingdom and had its release date recently bumped up to May 3, 2024.
