‘Deadpool 3’ First Look: Hugh Jackman Finally Wears Wolverine’s Iconic Suit In New Image From Upcoming Sequel

Even though Hugh Jackman is pretty much universally beloved as Wolverine in the various “X-Men” films over the past two decades, there has big one major complaint about his portrayal of the character—his lack of costume. Sure, he has worn a superhero suit in several films, but none of them have even come close to the bright yellow and blue comic book costume he is famous for wearing in decades’ worth of Marvel Comics. But it appears fans will finally get their wish when Jackman suits up one more (or last?) time in the upcoming “Deadpool 3.”

Thanks to Ryan Reynolds (via Instagram), who loves to tease the hell out of fans with surprise announcements about the “Deadpool” franchise, we finally get our first look at the forthcoming “Deadpool 3.” But it’s not just any first look; what Reynolds shares is an image that shows the actor dressed up as Deadpool, which we’ve seen plenty of in the first two films, as well as the aforementioned Jackman in the iconic yellow and blue suit.

Does it look silly? Yeah, kind of. Is it badass and really exciting to see, as a longtime comic book fan who never thought we’d actually see Hugh Jackman wearing that suit? 100% yes!

Look, there’s no denying Fox’s decision to put the X-Men in black leather was probably the best idea back in 2000, when the first film in the franchise was released. The world wasn’t ready for comic book-accurate suits at that point. But over the years, thanks largely to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, wild and colorful superhero costumes are pretty common and broadly accepted. So, yes, it does look a bit ridiculous to have Jackman walking around in a bright yellow superhero costume. But that is precisely what fans have been craving for decades. We’ll have to wait and see if the reality of a grown man in a yellow costume is badass or just silly, as the studio thought it would be more than 20 years ago.

“Deadpool 3” is expected to arrive in theaters on May 3, 2024. You can see a screenshot of the Instagram Story that Reynolds shared below:
