‘Spaceman’ Trailer: Adam Sandler Meets An Alien Entity In Johan Renck’s New Sci-Fi Drama

It seems as if Adam Sandler is only really interested in making two types of films—his standard-issue, pretty terrible Netflix comedies and his every-so-often dramatic films that are beloved by most. Judging by the trailer, “Spaceman” firmly fits the latter category. We’ll just have to wait and see if the quality can rival his other dramatic turns.

“Spaceman” is a film that follows the story of an astronaut who is on an incredibly long solo journey to the farthest reaches of our solar system. Leaving his wife behind, however, seems to be taking a toll, as he starts to feel immense loneliness. And that’s when a spider-like alien entity appears on his ship, offering to help. But is the alien real or just a hallucination?

The film stars Sandler opposite Carey Mulligan, Kunal Nayyar, Lena Olin, Isabella Rossellini, and Paul Dano. “Spaceman” is directed by Johan Renck, who is probably best known as the filmmaker behind the acclaimed HBO limited series, “Chernobyl.” Before this new sci-fi drama, the filmmaker only directed one other feature, 2008’s “Downloading Nancy.”

“Spaceman” hits theaters on February 23 before arriving on Netflix on March 1. You can watch the trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

Six months into a solitary research mission to the edge of the solar system, an astronaut, Jakub (Adam Sandler), realizes that the marriage he left behind might not be waiting for him when he returns to Earth. Desperate to fix things with his wife, Lenka (Carey Mulligan), he is helped by a mysterious creature from the beginning of time he finds hiding in the bowels of his ship. Hanuš (voiced by Paul Dano) works with Jakub to make sense of what went wrong before it is too late.
