2024 marks the 20th anniversary of the ridiculous comedy film, “White Chicks.” Seriously, has there been any film to age as bad as that? Well, one thing about that film that hasn’t aged badly is Marlon Wayans. Years after he made a name for himself as the star of a slew of comedies, it appears the comedian is ready to really embrace his more dramatic side. And his next project, “Goat,” seems to be the best chance Wayans has had in a while to showcase this new side of him.

According to Deadline, Marlon Wayans is set to star in the upcoming sports horror film, “Goat.” The film, produced by Jordan Peele and his Monkeypaw Productions, is set to be directed by Justin Tipping and tells the story of a new, hotshot young athlete who is chosen to train alongside a legendary star. Not much else is known about the film.
As mentioned, Wayans is probably best known for his early career as a comedic actor in films such as “White Chicks,” “A Haunted House,” and the “Scary Movie” franchise. All kidding aside, it’s easy to poke fun at “Scary Movie” and “White Chicks” and say that Marlon Wayans is a bad actor, but that’s obviously not the case. Even back in the early part of his career, he really impressed with his work in “Requiem for a Dream.” And more recently, with roles in “Air,” “Respect,” and “On the Rocks,” Wayans has shown that he is willing to expand his acting into more mature roles. So, it’ll be interesting to see what he does with “Goat.”
It’s obviously still too early to know when we might see “Goat” in theaters. But it sure is shaping up to be a project we’ll want to seek an eye on.
