Next week we’ll see “Daredevil: Born Again,” but interesting enough it had a bit of a rough start after there was some retooling (the first round of episodes got tossed and reshot) and a vocal group of fans online were upset that a handful of actors weren’t returning, and it sounds like folks in front of the camera voice their issues to Marvel Television as well.
Without specifically mentioning what their concerns were on those scrapped episodes and what got overhauled, Cox is certainly giving the impression that Marvel was very open-minded to what he and co-star Vincent D’Onofrio felt heard after the studio made changes when things weren’t exactly vibing.
“One of the most amazing things about working for this company was their ability to look at what we were making, listen to the things Vince and I had to say about it, and pivot; decide you know what, this isn’t quite the right direction and we know how we can change it and make it better,” Cox told THR at the show’s New York premiere.
Cox continued to praise the studio for being willing to make expensive changes to the series, “I don’t know many companies that would do that — that takes a lot of personnel, it takes a lot of money, so it’s so cool to be standing here today and feeling thrilled with the product, that we ended up in the place we wanted to be.”
Whatever they removed or fixed (there have been some indications bringing back stunt coordinator Philip J. Silvera was part of those changes alongside casting), those were some beneficial choices as the first reactions for the first two episodes were glowing.
Deborah Ann Woll, Wilson Bethel, Ayelet Zurer, and Elden Henson are part of the returning cast from the Netflix era and many were added to the call sheet during Marvel’s retooling period and their decision to make the previous seasons hard-canon.
A second season is on the way, so, fans won’t have to wait too long to see more episodes featuring Marvel’s street-level characters.
If you didn’t already know, “Daredevil: Born Again” debuts next week on March 4 and streams exclusively on Disney+.
