‘Mother’ Trailer: Noomi Rapace Stars In Biopic About Mother Teresa At Venice Film Festival Now

What’s Norwegian actress Noomi Rapace up to? After a couple of actioners in “Black Crab” and “Assassin’s Club,” she stars in what is her biggest dramatic role in recent memory: as a young Mother Teresa in “Mother.”

Set in 1948 Calcutta, “Mother” finds Rapace’s Teresa at a major turning point in her life, awaiting a letter that will finally allow her to leave her monastery and create a new order. But will she be able to fulfill the call she received from God without issue?

Here’s an official synopsis, courtesy of the Venice Film Festival:

Kolkata, India, August 1948. Teresa, Mother Superior of the convent of the Sisters of Loreto, is anxiously waiting for the letter that will finally allow her to leave her monastery and create a new order in response to the call she has received from God. And just as everything seems ready, she finds herself faced with a dilemma that challenges her own ambitions and faith at a major turning point in her life.

Along with Rapace, “Mother” also stars Sylvia Hoeks, Nikola Ristanovski, Marijke Pinoy, and Labina Mitevska.

Along with directing, Teona Strugar Mitevska also co-writes “Mother” with Goce Smilevski and Elam Tataragić. Producers on the film include Mitevska and Sebastien Delloye.

“Mother” had its world premiere in the Orizzonti section of the Venice Film Festival earlier this week. Watch a new trailer for the film below.
