To say we were shocked when Danny Boyle and Alex Garland announced a “28 Years Later” trilogy at Sony Pictures would be an understatement, and there is now a batch of first-look images from director Nia DaCosta‘s second installment, “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple.”
These new images from the folks over at Rolling Stone Magazine feature Oscar-winning actor Ralph Fiennes back in the role of Dr. Ian Kelson, Jack O’Connell‘s villainous Sir Jimmy Crystal, and Chi Lewis-Parry as Alpha rage virus-carrier Samson. Audiences won’t have to wait too much longer as the latest chapter in the rage virus saga, penned by Garland, is set to arrive in theaters on January 16, 2026.
In the film’s profile, DaCosta says that O’Connell is “a wonder” as Jimmy, “I love him. He is so excellent in this film. After Remmick [his vampire character in Ryan Coolger‘s ‘Sinners‘], he’s in his baddie era right now.” While being coy as not to reveal too much, adds “you get to see more of what it means for the Jimmies to all be dressed the same and for them to be called the Jimmies, the cult of personality he’s created around himself.”
Others among the cast include Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Alfie Williams, Emma Laird, Erin Kellyman, and it remains to be seen if Cillian Murphy‘s Jim from “28 Days Later” will indeed show up after promises from Boyle that he’s a big character in the third movie.
A third movie is said to be in the works, but Garland (expected to pen the third movie’s script and is without a director) is a little busy with his “Elden Ring” movie at A24, based on the recent fantasy video game that had some involvement of “Game of Thrones” creator George R.R. Martin contributing to the game’s lore.
You can check out those images from “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple” below, as the trailer is set to be released tomorrow.
