AC/DC To Release Greatest Hits Album In Conjunction With 'Iron Man 2'

Does the new “Iron Man 2” movie starring Robert Downey Jr. and directed by Jon Favreau rock extra hard? Is it extreme? Is it full of balls to the wall action and excitement? Will it leave you thunderstruck? Apparently someone, perhaps Paramount and Columbia would like to emphasize the sweaty, aggro and devil-horns-in-the-air subtly, grace and nuance of Aussie rockers AC/DC who are now in bed with the Marvel comics film.

Marvel Entertainment and Columbia Records announced today that the music of AC/DC will be featured in “Iron Man 2,” plus Columbia will also release an album called AC/DC: Iron Man 2 on Monday, April 19, which is basically a greatest hits collection containing 15 classic AC/DC songs (here’s a hint, they all kind of sound the same). What Black Sabbath wasn’t available and turned Paramount down (god, surely a Black Sabbath greatest hits would be undeniably 50,000 times better).

The band have also shot a new video for “Shoot To Thrill” which you can see below. It’s basically a promo for “Iron Man 2” with AC/DC concert footage interspersed throughout and probably took an editor all of 30 minutes to make on their lunch break. Uhh, we’re reporting this because as the place where music and movies meet — god, we really painted ourselves in a corner with that terrible idea — we feel rather obligated, but uh, we want nothing to do with this. “Iron Man 2” comes out May 7, 2010. Let’s hope to god it’s better than the last 15 AC/DC records. Video via [MTV]
