‘Charlie Vs. The Chocolate Factory’ Animated Film At Netflix Enlists Kit Connor, Taika Waititi, Kate Winslet, Nicola Coughlan & More, Hits Theaters November 2027

Today, Netflix has revealed the voice cast for their latest Roald Dahl adaptation, “Charlie vs. The Chocolate Factory,” as they’ve announced that Kit Connor (Warfare, Rocketman, Heartstopper) is set to inhabit the part of Charlie Paley in the new animated flick, and Taika Waititi (“Free Guy,” “Our Flag Means Death,” “Thor: Love & Thunder”) is playing the eccentric candyman, Willy Wonka.

The newly announced cast also features Nicola Coughlan (“Bridgerton,” “The Magic Faraway Tree”), Charithra Chandran (“Bridgerton,” “One Piece”), Samson Kayo (“F1: The Movie,” “Bloods”), Christopher Chung (“Slow Horses,” “My Brilliant Career”), Kate Winslet (“The Reader,” “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”), and Helena Bonham Carter (“One Life,” “Nolly”).

Jared Stern (“The LEGO Batman Movie,” “Green Eggs & Ham”) and Elaine Bogan (“Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia,” “Spirit Untamed”) are directing the animated movie, with Academy Award winner Aron Warner (“Shrek”) and Timothy Yoo (“Back to the Outback,” “Green Eggs & Ham”) producing. Waititi is also serving as an executive producer.

We also got our mitts on a synopsis for the movie from the streaming giant:

Willy Wonka (Waititi) has spent the years since the Golden Ticket contest behind bars (not the chocolate kind) for the crime of turning a child into a blueberry. Having served his time, Wonka returns to his factory determined to add a little sweetness to a bitter world. But one thing stands in his way: teenager Charlie Paley (Connor) and his friends. Facing eviction, this next generation of “rotten” kids plot to break into the factory, nab a priceless Wonka Bar, and save their homes. But like many before them who enter the fantastical world of the factory, these kids are in for a bit more than they can chew…

It’s another high-profile part for Connor, who is leading Alex Garland and A24‘s “Elden Ring” film, based on the mature fantasy video game that had some help from author George R.R. Martin in its creation, and is circling the Cyclops role for Marvel’s “X-Men” reboot movie.

Another interesting element here for “Charlie vs. The Chocolate Factory” is that Sony Pictures is going to be releasing the film in theaters on November 5, 2027, before it makes its exclusive Netflix streaming debut on December 22, 2027. We have to assume that after the success of “Kpop: Demon Hunters,” Netflix is going to be more open to the idea of having its animated originals in cinemas, and bolstering a relationship with Sony is certainly welcome.
