Got a Tip?

Trailer For The Duplass Brothers’ ‘Step Brothers’ ‘Cyrus’ Arrives

“Cyrus,” the Duplass’ brothers first step into big league filmmaking has some good things going to for it, most notably, the cast. The film stars John C. Reilly plays John, a recent divorcee who embarks on an exciting new relationship with Molly (Marisa Tomei) only to find it complicated by her son, Cyrus (Jonah Hill), who has never had to share his Mom with another man.

Among the host of Sundance related footage that landed online yesterday, the official trailer for the film landed in anticipation of its premiere and we’re a little let down. The first half of the trailer doesn’t seem so bad and has Reilly seemingly channeling his character of Officer Jim Kurring from “Magnolia” through man-child shtick that he’s been honing with Will Ferrell and co. over the past couple of years. But as soon as Hill enters the pictures, the film practically goes into full on “Step Brothers” mode as Cyrus and John duke it out for the attentions of Molly.

We really hoped the film wouldn’t be so one note, but that said, we think (and pray) this is just the gimmick to market the film and we do sense that there are some more dramatic undercurrents to “Cyrus” that are hinted at in the footage.

We remain cautiously optimistic, but see for yourself below: Btw the film is being scored one of our favorite composers, Michael Andrews who wrote the music for Miranda July’s “Me And You And Everyone We Know” — made our top 5 of the Best Soundtracks of the Decade — and “Walk Hard” as well as helping out on Judd Apatow’s “Funny People” (which Jason Schwartzman scored part of as well). -Terrance Wedin
