With their upcoming obtuse-love-triangle comedy “Cyrus” set to debut at Sundance, the Duplass Brothers have revealed that their next project will be a stoner-comedy set to shoot this spring.
“Our next movie is called ‘Jeff Who Lives at Home,'” revealed one of the brothers. “It’s our take on a quest movie. It’s like a ‘Sword in the Stone’ movie. But it’s starring a stoner who is looking for wood glue. We are always going to mess with genre and use it to our favor. I can’t say too much, because my press team will maul me. Jason Reitman is producing for us. We are shooting in the spring. This is the movie we were born to make. We are more than ready to jump into this one.”
The plot sounds a little ‘Harold And Kumar’-esque and we have to admit we’re not over the moon enthused by the prospect of yet another stoner-comedy. Still, whenever these guys dip their hands in something, it normally comes out at the very least entertaining and refreshingly different, so we’re keen to see comes of this. The project also seems to be the previously revealed collaboration between them and Reitman.
Casting wise, protagonist Jeff sounds potentially like a result of the Duplass’ new-found Hollywood power — if Reitman’s name as a producer wasn’t evidence enough. While they refused to reveal a name “because the deal is not closed,” the brothers clue us with the fact their actor is “half inside of [the stoner/comedy] world and half not.” Someone from the Apatow stable perhaps?
