The upcoming DVD and Blu-ray release of Spike Jonze’s “Where The Wild Things Are” will reportedly feature a short film adaptation of another Maurice Sendak children book, “Higglety Pigglety Pop! Or There Must Be More To Life.”
Details are scarce for now but it appears that the short will feature the vocal talents of Meryl Streep and Forest Whitaker. Streep will presumably voice protagonist Jeannie, a Sealyham terrier who leaves a life of luxury at home in search of an acting career only to find out it’s not all she imagined (written in 1979, the book was also a tribute to Sendak’s then-dearly departed pooch).
Whether the film is animated or, the better scenario, involves creations from the Jim Henson Creature Shop remains to be seen but we’d imagine it’d be the former. The “Where The Wild Things Are” DVD and Bluray hits stores March 2nd. Someone send us a copy, yo.
UPDATE: A Playlist reader has pointed us to The Bluray Blog who report that “Higglety Pigglety Pop” is a collaboration between Jonze and the National Film Board of Canada and will in fact be animated by Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski, the team behind Oscar nominated stop-motion animation “Madame Tutli-Putli.”
