Today, we bring you the trailer for “Women in Trouble,” Sebastien Gutierrez’s exercise in self-aware, campy women’s comedy-melodrama, starring Carla Gugino (his real life lady love), Connie Britton, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Marley Shelton, Adrianne Palicki, Sarah Clarke, Josh Brolin and Simon Baker.
We saw it at SXSW and thought it was fluffy entertainment, and the trailer doesn’t lie — it definitely captures the silly vibe of the movie but also tries to insert lots of huggy crying shots that are supposed to imply some sort of emotional honesty to the subject matter. To be quite honest, the madcap antics of the porn stars and call girls (and flight attendants, and therapists, and teen witches) in the film distracts from any sort of emotional value or message to be gained (whatever that might be). Basically, there’s a lot of hot ladies running around in lingerie, and the marketing campaign seems to think that the boobage will get butts in seats (see here and here), seriously, I think Carla G’s push up bra should get a Supporting nom (wow, bad joke, Walsh). There are no major revelations to be had here, but if you are looking for original, lighthearted entertainment, don’t rent that “Crank 2” or “Transformers: ROFLMAO” DVD, you’re better off buying a ticket to support indie film and seeing ‘Women in Trouble.’ Did I mention there are boobs?
