Got a Tip?

Bill Murray Extra Cynical On ‘Ghostbusters 3’: “They Just Want Us In There To Start A New Franchise”

On promotional duties for “Fantastic Mr Fox” — where the always congenial comedian said “Terminator Salvation” director McG “deserves to die” — the always entertaining and tempestuous Bill Murray threw more skeptical sand on the “Ghostbusters III” fire in a great interview with The London Times that really demonstrates Murray’s quick-t0-irritate mien (although one where the interviewer is clearly trying to get a rise out of the actor at one point).

He echoes recent reports that he’s not very keen on a new “Ghostbusters” movie and basically cynically says they just want the old guys (the original “Ghostbusters”) to appear so they can get on with their new generation and hopefully a new license to print money.

“What they really want from us is just to open the movie and then get lost after introducing a new generation of Ghostbusters, who can start the franchise all over again. I’ve heard the script idea, and part of it is good but, you know, it’s going to be tough to start again.”

So basically Venkman, Ray Stantz and Spengler show up old and gray, Obi-Wan-train a new generation for a minute and then Seth Rogen (or whomever, maybe even worse, the one-note McLovin’) run around in the “new and improved, ongoing-adventures of the ‘Ghostbusters’ “?

Yeah, that’s what we assumed. Boring, predictable, count us out.
