Diablo Cody Goes to 'Sweet Valley High'

OMG you guys (who are girls and over 25) guess what? THR’s blog reports that Diablo Cody is writing an adaptation of the Sweet Valley High series. Yes, soon those blonde twins about high school, Elizabeth and Jessica Wakefield, will be driving their Sypder through the 90210/Buffy high school set and solving mysteries. And breaking hearts. And stuff. And for Universal no less.

Enough making fun – the report is that Cody tracked down the rights to the now defunct book series herself and is also producing. It’s kind of amazing that Sweet Valley High hasn’t been tapped for a screenplay already, since there are over 150 books in the best selling series and ’80s nostalgia runs rampant in Hollywood. It was previously adapted as a TV series, starring Doublemint gum twins Cynthia and Brittany Daniel (the latter of whom went on to star in “White Chicks” and ummm…Dawson’s Creek?). No word on casting for this project, as it is still in development, but we’re sure that just the right blonde twin set will turn up somewhere.
