Got a Tip?

‘Whip It’ Soundtrack Hits Sept 29, Features Raveonettes, Breeders, The Go! Team, Peaches; Many More

Two of the biggest soundtracks of the fall have hit in successive days. Yesterday it was the full track list for Karen O & The Kids’ soundtrack to “Where The Wild Things Are,” today it’s the various artists involved in Drew Barrymore’s directorial debut, “Whip It,” a roller derby coming-of-age story starring Ellen Page.

As previously reported, The Section Quartet, known for their orchestral covers of popular hits from The Postal Service, Radiohead, Muse, Soundgarden, Linkin Park, Oasis, etc. etc, have composed the film’s score — after Mark Mothersbaugh got bounced — but they’re not the soundtrack disc.

Previous reports (by us) said the soundtrack would include Peaches (the same song featured in the trailer), Turbo Fruits, Landon Pigg (also an actor and Ellen Page’s love interest in the film), Jim Diamond and Har Mar Superstar who has a cameo in the film as well and all of this stuff turns out to be true (Diamond is a music producer in Detroit where the film was shot and produced some of the tracks).

Additional artists include, The Ramones, The Go! Team, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, The Breeders, .38 Special, The Chordettes (their version of “Lollipop” remixed by Spike Jonze’s brother Squeak-E clean, yes, that ’50s bubblegum classic.) and Little Joy, the new band from Barrymore’s ex-Strokes boyfried, Fabrizio Moretti (she likes to keep her exes close apparently, Justin Long also has a role in the film). The Landon Pigg and the Turbo Fruits, plus the Adam Green/Har Mar Superstar track appear to be new. Specifically written for the film? Probably, but no confirmation yet.

Some audio context where applicable. “The 19-track Whip It” soundtrack hits record stores and digital shops on September 29 via Rhino Records.
