Edgar Wright has unveiled a shot of Jason Schwartzmann in his role as Gideon Graves in “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World.” Graves is the seventh and final evil-ex boyfriend that Michael Cera’s titular Scott Pilgrim’ must defeat in order to win the hand of Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead). Graves’ character in the script amounts to an obnoxious, but amusing douchebag uber-hipster. [EdgarWrightHere]
Richard Linklater is set to take reigns of Miramax and Scott Rudin’s “Liars (A-E),” a rom-com about a woman who retrieves lost items from her ex-boyfriends as she is on her way to President Obama’s inauguration. Umm, what? Sounds like a comedy of errors pilgrimage. Kat Dennings is set to play a friend of the protagonist who hasn’t been cast yet. So much for the spiritual sequel to “Dazed & Confused,” but perhaps Linklater knows that indie pet-projects aren’t the best idea in this climate as of this moment and work-for-hires — hopefully ones that aren’t too soul-sucking; this one sounds congenial enough — are probably the right idea to keep the career afloat. Ron Livingston, Jim Gaffigan, Kelli Gellar, Rob Riggle and Jason Sudeikis have joined the cast of the Drew Barrymore and Justin Long led rom-com “Going the Distance,” about a couple who are in a long-distance relationship. Yawn for the most part, though we do like Livingston a lot. [Variety]
