Got a Tip?

Tenacious D Writing Music For ‘Heavy Metal,’ Jack Black Also Collaborating With J.J. Abrams On ‘Comedy With Music’?

In an interview with MTV, Jack Black has discussed some upcoming projects and collaborations of his, namely with David Fincher, James Cameron and J.J. Abrams. Wow, he isn’t doing too badly is he?

On the Fincher and Cameron produced “Heavy Metal” remake, Black noted with caution that the project was not yet greenlit and that it would be premature to discuss it citing the fact his “made the mistake before of talking about things before they’re real and then it doesn’t happen.”

Black did, however, reveal that his involvement the project will be associated with his band. “Me and Kyle [Gass], Tenacious D, we wrote a song for “Heavy Metal” remake. Hopefully that’ll happen, I mean, the song is kick-ass.”

Further, on rumored talks taking place between he and Abrams, Black denied any involvement with the “Star Trek” franchise and revealed that discussions were actually for a new project. “We’re talking about a comedy involving music,” said Black. “He would produce [but] it’s too early to say [anything more].”

Other than his usual sci-fi-action-thriller types, Abrams has also produced such dramatic television programs as “Felicity” and “What About Brian.” Looks like his now trying his hand at a musical comedy. Black’s last attempt at the genre flopped hard (“Tenacious D: The Pick Of Destiny” anyone?) so it’ll be interesting how the involvement of box-office gold like Abrams will change things and if Black can recapture his former glory of Richard Linklater’s “School Of Rock.”
