Got a Tip?

Jay Baruchel Updates On ‘Jay And Seth Vs. The Apocalypse,’ Talks New Canadian Hockey Film, ‘The Goon’

Remember the comedy short “Jay And Seth Vs. The Apocalypse” starring Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen about two degenerate 20-somethings living in abject squalor during an apocalypse? The one that was set to become a full blown feature film after production companies caught onto the internet sensation?

Well, speaking with MTV, Baruchel has now provided an update on the project which is set to, “at the very least happen in the next year and a half.”

“They’re working on the script right now,” said Baruchel. “All the concepts are there, all the beats are there, the treatment is there and a movie with us in it—we’ll improvise half the thing anyway, so it doesn’t matter.”

Uhhh, excuse us, but that sounds like “don’t hold your breath.” Baruchel and Rogen are, of course, collaborating with Rogen’s writing partner Evan Goldberg on the project. Rogen and Goldberg have previously penned such Apatow films as “Pineapple Express” and “Superbad” and are currently in the midst of writing and developing a certain superhero film with Michel Gondry and Stephen Chow which is apparently slowing down, ‘Apocalypse.’

“Seth and Evan are working on ‘The Green Hornet’ right now, and that’s just a big, massive undertaking that’s taking up all their time and effort,” noted Baruchel. “The minute [‘Hornet’] is finished, we go into production on one of two things. We’ll either do ‘Jay and Seth vs. the Apocalypse’ or we’ll do this hockey movie that Evan and I wrote called ‘The Goon.'”

On the proposed hockey project, Baruchel further added: “We’re putting the cast together as I speak. I’m not going to screw myself and say who but I’ll say that needless to say they’re famous. It’s a Canadian hockey movie. Whichever one is closer to going, we’ll do.” Fingers crossed for ‘Apocalypse’? Or Paging Kevin Smith who is enamored with all things hockey and the Great White North.

“The Green Hornet” was supposed to begin shooting around June which doesn’t seem like the case so who knows when these projects could be lined up. Suffice to say, Baruchel probably shouldn’t just sit and wait on Rogen.
