Got a Tip?

Could Danny Boyle Direct ‘Maximum City’ Next?

MTV has a nice find in “Maximum City: Bombay Lost and Found” a narrative nonfiction book about the people of Mumbai written by Suketu Mehta, combines elements of memoir, travel writing and socio-political analysis of the cities’ history, that director Danny Boyle has just bought the rights to according to the Wall Street Journal.

Apparently it was his bible on “Slumdog Millonaire” which is set in the streets of Mumbai, and he just bought the rights to the book in May.

MTV (and the WSJ) speculates, could this be his next project and he’ll come full circle on the city and he people he fell in love with while in India?

Sounds doubtful to us. An executive-producer project he can hand off to someone else like he did with the “28 Days Later” zombie franchise? Yeah, we can totally buy that and in fact, bet that’s the case. But directing it himself? Boyle tends to never repeat himself and in an interview we did with him late last year, he suggested he got bored with doing so (note, those aren’t part of the quotes in that particular interview, but we remember the conversation).

Of course our guess is as good as anyone else’s really, but we’d be willing to put down money, this one isn’t next for Boyle. At least, not as a director.
