'Arrested Development' Development Slightly Arrested By Other Project Speedbumps

Hey, it’s your requisite, bi-monthly non-news “Arrested Development” update that actually has a tiny little bit more news to it (or at least more than the last negligible post).

Sounds like Mitch Hurwitz’s new show, “Sit Down, Shut Up,” over at Fox has slowed the, ahem, development a bit of the project (and we’ve heard terrible things about the show from Hurwitz devotees).

Last we heard, the cast were clearing their schedule for late 2009 in hopes of shooting the film in that window of time, but it’s basically May and still no screenplay.

“Still waiting on a script,” Howard told MTV News this week. “Mitch’s television company was very successful—good for Mitch—and slowed things up a little bit for ‘Arrested Development’ fans.”

Still, that’s a good six or seven months to work on the thing, but will schedules, money and actors still be open/available if the screenplay would hit in say, July? Apparently Hurwitz is not even “actively writing” the script which doesn’t bode well.

“Mitch is into it. He’s thinking about it. He’s told me some of the ideas. They’re hilarious. But he hasn’t pulled it together into a script—that I know of! Maybe he’ll see this and email me something.”

Sounds promising. We’ve also been thinking… about being millionaires this year that is. It’ll probably happen…

Still the ever-goofy-smiling Howard remains optimistic as always. “Every time I bump into anyone from the show—everybody’s excited.”

Hmm, yes. If you say so. Maybe “Sit Down, Shut Up,” will get cancelled? “Arrested Development” fans can only hope and pray, while we’ll quietly muse that perhaps the world doesn’t need the possibility of the TV show being ruined by a slapped-together movie, so maybe this is all a good thing. We’ll have to wait and see what transpires in the next few months in the meantime.
