Jason Segel Reveals Character Inspiration For 'I Love You, Man': Russell Brand

At a recent screening for “I Love You, Man,” Jason Segel revealed that the inspiration for his character in the film was none other than his “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” co-star, Russell Brand.

“I prepared for my role by copying Russell Brand, that was really my main goal. Russell has a real, ‘This is who I am – take it or leave it,’ attitude that I noticed during ‘[Forgetting] Sarah Marshall’ that I thought would be perfect for this character – so I just ripped off Russell basically.”

‘Sarah Marshall’ has proven to be quite the stepping stone for both Segel and Brand. Segel, whose character in ‘Sarah Marshall’ is a puppeteer, is working with Disney on a new “Muppets” picture. Brand, meanwhile, is revisiting his character Aldous Snow from ‘Sarah Marshall’ in a spin-off titled, “Get Him To The Greek.” The spin-off is also set to reciprocate the inspirational influence between the two as it will include songs performed by Brand that were written by Segel. ‘Greek’ is supposed to start principle photography imminently.
