Got a Tip?

Mark Strong Contradicts The Basic PR-Fed Robin Hood Plot

Just when we were starting to starting to get a clearer picture of what Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood film was all about, actor Mark Strong has thrown a spanner in the works revealing to Empire that the project “isn’t the Robin Hood story.” He further added that “although all the characters are all involved, [the film is] a different narrative.”

Early versions of Scott’s project comprised of one character as both Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham, however, this was later scrapped. Questions regarding the film’s plot raged on after this until a press release last week revealed a fairly standard Robin Hood narrative with the ‘Prince of Thieves’ as the protagonist. So what does Strong mean when he says this “isn’t the Robin Hood story”?

Regarding his own role in the film, Strong confirmed the drastic narrative changes by informing us that “a year ago [he] was playing the Guy of Gisborne character” but was now portraying Sir Godfrey who he describes as “King John’s right-hand man who is a bit of bastard.”

The project began shooting only last week with the aim of May release in 2010.
