Speaking with Empire recently, Paul Greengrass revealed that his upcoming film “Green Zone”, starring ongoing collaborator Matt Damon, is almost completed and ready.
“It’s almost done. It’s a thriller, it’s got a lot of action, and I made it about something I’m very passionate about it,” said Greengrass of his project.
‘Green Zone’ is loosely based on Rajiv Chandrasekaran’s non-fiction novel “Imperial Life Of The Emerald City” which provided “color rather than narrative” for Greengrass’ film. “It gave us a powerful sense of time and place of Baghdad at the time.” The book is an account of life in Baghdad’s Green Zone, a walled-off enclave of towering plants, posh villas, and sparkling swimming pools that was the headquarters for the American occupation of Iraq.
‘Green Zone’ is due out sometime in 2009 and was written by Brian Helgeland (“L.A. Confidential”, “Bourne Supremacy”). Co-starring with Damon will be Amy Ryan, Greg Kinnear, Jason Isaacs and Brendon Gleeson.
