ShortCuts: 'Shutter Island' Is Weakly Teased; Another 'Hurt Locker' Poster; Johnny Depp's First 'Rum Diary' Look; More...

A fairly underwhelming teaser poster of Martin Scorese’s “Shutter Island,” has been making the rounds. It sort of looks like a cheap, knock-off of the ideas already presented in “why so serious” Joker/’Dark Knight’ posters, only nowhere near as effective. This poster’s tag is “whatever happened to patient 67?” which is Emily Mortimer’s character in the psychological thriller due October 2. [Rope Of Silicon]

Simon Pegg will voice a “slightly unhinged, swashbuckling weasel,” in “Ice Age 3” which is due later this summer on July 1st. [EW]

“Quantum of Solace” British actress Gemma Arterton will play the demi-goddess Io in Louis Leterrier’s upcoming remake of “Clash Of The Titans.” [Empire]

Tobey Maguire is attached to star in a film about rival Grand Prix drivers called, “The Limit.” [Variety]

The new poster for “The Hurt Locker” is pretty incredible if you’ve seen the movie, but it’s admittedly too ambiguous to those that haven’t seen it. If Summit Entertainment wants to market this film to a larger summer crowd, they’re probably going to need some explosions and action unfortunately. [Collider]

Variety has an entire piece about studios putting the cart before the horse, i.e., majors getting into the bad habits of making release dates for films with no scripts yet (“Transformers 3,” Marvel’s surplus of films, etc.) [Variety]

Apparently death threats from Mexican gangs have persuaded the makers of “Queen of the South,” a film about murder and revenge among Latino Mafiosos that was set to star Josh Hartnett, Eva Mendes and Ben Kingsley, to shoot in Mexico. The filmmakers have reportedly abandoned the whole shoot? Have they not heard of Puerto Rico or alternate locations? [Hollywood Elsewhere]

A shot of Johnny Depp on the set of “The Rum Diary” has been leaked. Other than sunglasses that vaguely resemble something Hunter S. Thompson might wear, it seems the Paul Kemp journalist in the book (another Thompson quasi surrogate) won’t really resemble the good doctor. Wonder how Johnny Depp will play this one and or if he’ll do so with echoes of his Raul Duke character in “Fear & Loathing In Las Vegas.” Anyone have “The Rum Diary” script? [PopSugar]

Emma Stone (the redhead in “Superbad”) has been cast in “Easy A,” a modern retelling of “The Scarlet Letter,” only this time the setting is high school. [Variety]
