When it was announced that Drew Barrymore could be a possible contender to direct the third “Twilight” film, “Eclipse,” some were pleased and suggested bringing back the female spirit to a female-penned novel was a step in the right direction.
But maybe Summit Entertainment has other plans? “Twilight” newguy Kellan Lutz recently spoke to MTV and suggested the studio was looking for male director before Barrymore came into the discussion, but whoever the filmmaker was, the plan never came to be.
“I actually heard rumors that they did have a third director, and he fell out, and then they saw more people,” Lutz told MTV. “I would say [the name] if I could remember it. But I know it was a guy.”
Could one of them be James Mangold (“3:10 To Yuma”) or Juan Antonio Bayona (“The Orphanage”)? Both had been previously reported as “Eclipse” contenders.
This doesn’t necessarily suggest Barrymore could be out, but she still really strikes us as an odd choice, female or not and doesn’t really seem proven with this kind of relatively big budget material the way Chris Weitz did with “The Golden Compass.”
