Steven Spielberg’s pet project, “Lincoln” was killed two weeks ago when Paramount pulled the plug on it, right?
Many saw it as proof of Spielberg’s waning power or studio’s fear of greenlighting anything that’s not a immediate blockbuster slamdunk.
But not so fast. EW talked to Spielberg’s PR flack and apparently the previous report is false, the project is still all full steam ahead*. “Lincoln is alive and well and continues in active development,” Marvin Levy, Spielberg’s longtime publicist said. “Everyone is proceeding with great enthusiasm. The script is still being revised by Tony Kushner and our plans are now to shoot the picture later this year.” Levy says Liam Neeson is still in the title role. *When you can’t trust Salon, who can you trust?
Wow, so does that mean that Christmas 2009 is still the goal? Spielberg basically shot “Munich” in a weekend and had it ready for Oscar season. The budget is a reported $50 million which is modest by today’s standards.
