“The first ‘Sin City‘ was such an experiment. We weren’t sure what audiences would accept, because it was just completely different. They liked it, so [I] could push it forward and do more what I wanted of the first time,” director Robert Rodriguez told Film School Rejects about the 3D shot, “Frank Miller’s Sin City: A Dame To Kill For.” So, it means a more textured world or, to put it another way, more boobs and bullets in your face.
A few new images from the upcoming noir have arrived and it’s patently clear what’s being sold to audiences: sex and violence. That’s hardly a surprise. The first movie was a blend of the two, and it worked to the tune of over $155 million worldwide, and who knows how much more in DVD sales (it was a big one at the time). So now the franchise is back with the same look, aesthetic and attitude as its predecessor. Will it succeed?
Guess we’ll just have to see who turns out on August 22nd.
