Got a Tip?

Sundance Watch: ‘Humpday’ And ‘Adam’ Both Sell

As we were just saying last night, mumblecore affiliate director Lynn Shelton’s buddy comedy”Humpday” has proven to be quite a crowd-pleasing hit at the ’09 Sundance Film Festival, so naturally, the film’s sale was announced this morning by Variety.

The film has been scooped up by indie Magnolia – where indie films go to die {kidding} – for a mid six figure deal. The film stars Duplass brother Mark, and Joshua Leonard as straight bff’s who plan to film themselves having sex for an art project. We’re skeptical, but even mumblecore loather, the Bagger enjoyed it, so we’ll have to give it a shot.

Also scooped up rather quickly, or at least in final negotiations, is the romance flick “Adam” starring Rose Byrne and Hugh Dancy with Peter Gallagher and Amy Irving. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Fox Searchlight is close to sealing the deal which probably means “Adam” has a lot of quirk to it. And it probably does considering Dancy’s character is afflicted with Asperger’s syndrome (it’s a form of social autism and can never really help a romance let alone normal interaction). The film has had little buzz and hasn’t been discussed, but many studios are apparently seeing sleeper potential in it similar to “Once.”

The film is directed by Max Mayer and its his second feature after 1998’s “Better Living.”
