Got a Tip?

’80s Rock Anthems To Be Celebrated In ‘Rock Of Ages’

The Off-Broadway stage musical “Rock of Ages” is coming to the big screen via New Line. And apparently the film adaptation is hoping to do what “Mamma Mia” did for ABBA. Hollywood always pays attention when a left-field project does remarkably well and “Mamma Mia” fits that bill to a T. The stage version of the play centered on ’80s rock anthems popularized by Journey, Twisted Sister, Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Foreigner, Bon Jovi and REO Speedwagon. Tobey Maguire is one of the actors attached to star and he storyline takes place at a Sunset Strip rock club called ‘Rock of Ages,’ where a man and woman fall in love but get torn apart by the rock lifestyle (presumably Maguire is that dude). Originally the play starred Constantine from “American Idol.” Here’s the whole run-down of songs covered in the original they include additional songs by Quiet Riot, Damn Yankees, Poison, Whitesnake, etc.

Sandra Bullock is a Canadian that marries an American (Ryan Reynolds) to stay in the country in the trailer for the awful-looking 2009 comedy we won’t be seeing called, “The Proposal.” Who keeps hiring Sandra Bullock and how in blazes did she ever become a star? [TrailerAddict]

Comedian Artie Lang was almost cast as a sleazy wrestling promoter in Darren Aronofsky’s “The Wrestler.” [/Film]

James Gray (“We Own The Night”) aka the director Lisa Schwarzbaum is not about to sit around all day for his new movie to start, will direct “The Lost of City of Z” for Paramount starring Brad Pitt. It’s apparently a non-fiction adventure. [Variety]

The Sundance Film Festival will show 96 short films next year. [Variety]
