'Gomorrah' Moves Up Release Date To Improve Oscar Chances

Matteo Garrone’s gritty drama, “Gomorrah,” which tells the story of corruption and crime in Naples via the infamous Cammora Mafia, is currently moving its U.S. release date to December, which makes it eligible for Oscar consideration outside of Best Foreign-Language film.

“Gomorrah” is based off Roberto Saviano’s non-fiction novel of the same name, which caused enough trouble that Saviano has been forced into hiding with an armed guard escort due to the fact that the Cammora family wants him dead for the attention the movie has brought to them. Mafia film connoisseur, Martin Scorsese called “Gomorrah” a “great” film, you can also read our full review here.
