In a somewhat surprising bit of news, it looks like AC/DC’s Brian Johnson is taking a very rare gig outside from his bread and butter dayjob of fronting one of the world’s biggest rock bands. The singer is set to pen a few songs for the soundtrack for the forthcoming indie pic “Doonby,” which is being described as a cross between “It’s A Wonderful Life” and “Crazy Heart.”
Starring John Schneider (“Smallville,” “The Dukes Of Hazzard”) and Robert Davi (“Die Hard,” “License To Kill”) the film follows “a mysterious stranger who takes a job as a singing bartender and always seems to be in the right place at the right time, a quality that inspires a dangerous level of envy from his new neighbors.” Here’s the complete synopsis from the film’s website:
Sam Doonby, a mysterious, handsome drifter gets off a Greyhound bus in a small Texas town and finds work at Leroy’s Blues Bar where his great musical talents make him very popular, especially with Laura, the beautiful but spoiled daughter of successful gynecologist Cyrus Reaper. Sam always seems to be in the right place at the right time to avert disasters befalling the town and its people until suspicion and jealousy drive folks to ask who he is and where he comes from. Even Laura starts to question him so now he disappears as quickly as he came and things start to go badly wrong. His rejection results in terrible shocks for the whole town, not least for the doctor and his family as Cyrus’ past comes back to haunt him.
The film co-stars Joe Estevez, Jennifer O’Neill, Ernie Hudson and Jenn Gotzon, and mark the directorial debut of actor/writer Peter Mackenzie. Filming is set to begin next month in Austin.
And in case you might’ve forgotten AC/DC have a greatest hits album of sorts in stores now that also happens to be a marketing tie-in/soundtrack to “Iron Man 2.”
