Got a Tip?

Adam Mckay Teases ‘Anchorman 2’ Will Involve “A Custody Battle” & “Bowling For Dollars”

Curiously absent in last month’s surprise announcement of “Anchorman 2” was any mention of the musical angle that was bandied about back in 2010. While the rumor was that Paramount turned initially turned down the project over budget concerns and fears it wouldn’t play internationally and would’ve been cost prohibitive, there is no doubt a star-powered musical sequel — even with everyone taking pay cuts — would have been expensive. And while it’s not a sure thing that a musical approach has been totally deep-sixed (and we’d guess there will be at least some kind of music nod like “Afternoon Delight” in the first film) all signs point to yes.

As part of the news it of the “Anchorman” sequel it was revealed that collaborators Adam McKay and Will Ferrell would be pairing on a (presumably fresh) script and speaking recently with Slate, the director revealed a couple of teasers about where the story may go. “I don’t want to give away too much, but I’ll just give a couple pieces of ideas that we’ve kicked around. Keep in mind we’re still writing the story, but I’ll say one phrase for you: custody battle. I’ll give you that. I’ll give you one other one: bowling for dollars,” McKay said. What does that mean? Who knows, and really, does it matter? It sounds positively normal for the absurd world of Ron Burgundy. But really, it looks like things with Veronica Corningstone don’t end well.

The Action 4 team are all expected to return, and we’d guess there will be innumerable cameos as well. No release date yet for the film, when it does arrive we will celebrate, and there be flutes playing and trombones and flowers and garlands of fresh herbs. And we will dance till the sun rises.
