Got a Tip?

Adam Sandler & George Clooney Will Star In Noah Baumbach’s New Coming Of Age Drama At Netflix

So the rumors from earlier this year are true: Noah Baumbach is returning to Netflix for his next film. But the rumor mill got the leads of the film wrong or at least one-half of them. Deadline reports that George Clooney and Adam Sandler will star in Baumbach’s next picture, a coming-of-age story about adults.

It’ll be the first time Baumbach and Sandler team up since “The Meyerowitz Stories,” an earlier Netflix romp for two guys who are almost Netflix-exclusive at this point. But it’s Clooney’s first time working with both Baumbach and Sandler, which makes his casting intriguing.

Along with directing, Baumbach co-writes the script for his next project with Emily Mortimer. Baumbach also leads producing with Amy Pascal, and David Heyman. The upcoming film is part of Baumbach’s exclusive deal with the streamer, which includes last year’s Don Delillo adaptation “White Noise.” Baumbach is coming off an amazing 2023 thanks to co-writing “Barbie” with his partner Greta Gerwig. Thanks to the global success of “Barbie,” expect all eyes to be on this project.

But Sandler and Clooney have had busy 2023s, too. Sandler of course has stayed busy on Netflix with “Murder Mystery 2” and “You Are So Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah.” He also did voice work on the animated film “Leo” for the streamer. And Clooney’s latest directing effort, “The Boys In The Boat,” bows at Christmas. Clooney doesn’t act as much as he used to, but he reunited with his “Ocean’s” co-star Brad Pitt for the Apple thriller “Wolfs,” about two fixers hired to complete the same job. That film comes out next year.

When rumors about this project broke in January, Pitt was attached to star alongside Sandler. So why isn’t he in it? It’s likely due to Pitt still needing to finish another Apple project: Joseph Kosinski‘s Formula One movie, which has, if rumors are true, the new title of “Apex.” As for Baumbach’s film, Expect that one to drop in 2025 at the earliest.
