With cameras set to roll on Wednesday for “Crash” director Paul Haggis‘ latest ensemble drama “Third Person,” he’s putting the final pieces of casting in place, with a couple more notable names coming on board.
Adrien Brody and Maria Bello join the sprawling cast, which includes Liam Neeson, James Franco, Kim Basinger, Mila Kunis, Olivia Wilde and more. Spanning three cities — New York, Paris and Rome — the film will chronicle three relationships in intersecting stories. And rather than try and recap them all for you in our own words, and to save some time, here’s the official synopsis:
(Paris) Michael, a writer who recently left his wife, receives a visit from his lover Anna. The story explores their very complicated on/off relationship due to her inability to commit because of a terrible secret.
(New York) Julia has recently been charged with attempting to kill her son, a charge which she firmly denies. As a result of these charges, her son is now in the custody of his father Rick who’s trying everything in his power to take the boy away from her. Julia is trying at all costs to regain custody of her son.
(Rome) Sean, an American business man on a trip to Italy, falls in love with an Italian woman, Monica. Sean is inevitably drawn into a plot where he tries to free Monica’s daughter who has been kidnapped by an Italian gangster and is being held for ransom. Emotions run high as we and Sean question whether this is a set up or not.
No word yet on who is playing what, as the roles are mostly being kept guarded (though it has been revealed Basinger and Neeson will be one of the couples). Hopefully these will be better parts that Bello and Brody (“Midnight In Paris” aside) have been doing lately. Remember “Prime Suspect“? We don’t either. And moreover, we hope the resulting movie is a bit more subtle than its title. [Variety]
