‘Ain’t Them Bodies Saints’ Director David Lowery To Direct Live Action ‘Peter Pan’ For Disney

Peter PanWhile audiences will have to wait until later this summer to weigh in on "Pete’s Dragon," Disney has already made it clear how they feel about "Ain’t Them Bodies Saints" director David Lowery‘s take on 1977 movie — they love it. And they are looking to keep the director in the fold at the mouse house.

Deadline reports that Disney has reupped the "Pete’s Dragon" creative team — Lowery and screenwriter Toby Halbrooks — for a live action redo of "Peter Pan." The character has been to the screen plenty of times, notably in Disney’s animated 1953 picture, and in Universal‘s 2004 feature film, and on NBC as part of a recently live musical broadcast on NBC. There was also Steven Spielberg‘s underrated "Hook" in the 1990s, and Warner Bros.‘ ill fated attempt last year with "Pan." Basically, Disney is going to step in where the competition have failed.

No word yet on Lowery’s take, nor if this will be his project, or if he’ll jump back to something in his indie roots first. But clearly both Lowery and Disney got along just fine on "Pete’s Dragon," and there’s more to come from that collaboration. That picture opens on August 12th.
