Got a Tip?

Alden Ehrenreich Frontrunner To Play Han Solo In ‘Star Wars’ Spinoff

Hail, Caesar! It seems Hollywood has been waiting for Alden Ehrenreich to have his moment, and it looks like it’s finally going to arrive. After impressing everyone with his turn in Francis Ford Coppola‘s "Tetro," he was a hot ticket in the industry, but he didn’t catch fire right away. However, the actor has quietly built up a resumé working with some top shelf auteurs — Woody Allen ("Blue Jasmine"), Park Chan-Wook ("Stoker"), Warren Beatty (his Howard Hughes project), and the Coens ("Hail, Caesar!" — easily the bright spot of that disappointing picture) — and now it looks like he’s going to step into the big time.

Ehrenreich is now being reported as the frontrunner for the young Han Solo "Star Wars" spinoff movie. The casting process has been quite drawn out, and last we heard, the actor was on a shortlist of finalists that included Taron Egerton ("Kingsman: The Secret Service") and Jack Reynor ("Transformers"). Phil Lord and Chris Miller are directing the movie, and of course, no details have been revealed just yet, other than Chewbacca will obviously appear.

There is no official word from Disney or Lucasfilm yet, but it seems a formal announcement is imminent. The young Han Solo movie will be released on May 25, 2018. [Deadline]
