Alec Baldwin Says ‘Rock Of Ages’ Was “A Complete Disaster”

Based on a massively successful Broadway show, stuffed with catchy ’80s hits and led by Tom Cruise, on paper the mega-musical “Rock Of Ages” looked like a sure thing. But when it arrived in theaters last summer, it was hardly the smash Warner Bros. might have been looking for. Limping to $38 million at home and even less abroad, the movie hit a sour note with both audiences and critics and quickly disappeared from view. And at least one name involved isn’t hiding his feelings about how it went down.

The always candid and forthright Alec Baldwin was interviewed last night at the American Magazine Media Conference, where he lamented the tentpole and blockbuster focus of Hollywood these days. But he didn’t leave his own choices out of the conversation. “It was a complete disaster,” he said of “Rock Of Ages,” adding: “A week in you go, ‘Oh God, what have I done?’”

He went on to explain he took the gig because he wanted to work with Cruise and Russell Brand, but the end result was something he described quite simply as a “horrible movie.” So, we guess no sequel then…

It’s hard to argue with Baldwin about this one and we reckon he’ll be enjoying the finished product of his next project, the currently in-production Cameron Crowe film, a lot more. [The Wrap]
