Alec Baldwin Defends Woody Allen Podcast & Calls Blackout Tuesday A “National Day Of Whatever”

Right now, there are a number of topics that dominate the news. There are the current protests in light of the George Floyd killing. Of course, there’s the COVID-19 pandemic that still looms over everything. And though it’s just Monday, obviously Donald Trump is probably already saying/doing something that is terrible. But for Alec Baldwin, he just wants to promote his new podcast with his special guest, Woody Allen. And he’s not sure why people are so upset.

Recently, Baldwin posted an episode of his podcast with guest Woody Allen. And normally, Allen speaking about his career, his current issues with Hollywood, and the sexual abuse allegations that have followed him for decades would be enough to make headlines. However, considering the general public has other things on its mind, such as the uprising in the streets and the pandemic killing more than 110,000 people in the US alone, folks didn’t take too kindly to Baldwin’s recent posts on Instagram promoting his podcast during last week’s Blackout Tuesday.

And when these concerns were brought to Baldwin’s attention, the actor didn’t back down and seemed to further fan the flames.

“As for the perceived lack of sensitivity re BlackOutTuesday, I had no idea about this…national day of whatever,” the actor said in a reply to a fan questioning why he promoted Woody Allen on a day when many decided to back off of social media promotion. “Three things: the professional lives of some people cannot be put on hold at the whims of political correctness. I believe Allen is innocent and that is my right. Posting a black screen today or any other day, though a decent sentiment, is not an effective political stance. Voting, and working to enroll others to vote, is more…practical.”
