Got a Tip?

Alexandre Desplat Reunites With Jacques Audiard, Scoring ‘Rust And Bone’ Starring Marion Cotillard

nullWhile not much has been heard of the film so far, as we enter the new year, Jacques Audiard's "Rust and Bone," his latest effort following the acclaimed "A Prophet," should start to gain some serious buzz. Indeed, the film is one of our most anticipated of year. And now there's one more reason to get excited.

Easily one of our favorite composers working today, Alexandre Desplat has confirmed in an extensive interview with Collider (via Film Music Reporter) that he will be scoring the upcoming movie. An adaptation of Canadian writer Craig Davidson's 2005 short story collection, it's not quite certain how the director will weave the various stories about prizefighters, fighting dogs, amputee sex addicts and gamblers. But for her part, Marion Cotillard's storyline will involve a marine park Orca trainer who loses his leg and then joins Unlimbited Potential, a support group made of addict-amputees.

This will be a reunion for Desplat and Audiard, with the composer handling the music for all of his films to date. And it's another high profile project for Desplat, who will also be tuning up Wes Anderson's "Moonrise Kingdom" in 2012.

No word yet on when the film will land, but shooting only started last fall so a late 2012 festival bow — Venice or TIFF — seems a good bet for where the movie will make an appearance. You can watch the full interview with Desplat below.
