Starring the stellar cast of Andrew Scott, Paul Mescal, Jamie Bell, and Claire Foy, one wants to tread lightly when discussing the film to avoid spoiling it; the drama centers on a lonely screenwriter (Scott) drawn back to his childhood home. As he enters a fledgling relationship with a mysterious neighbor (Mescal), he discovers his parents appear to be living just as they were on the day they died 30 years before.
Suffice it to say it’s a profoundly moving, deeply haunting, emotional, well-shot picture that features excellent use of U.K. pop music from the ‘80s and ‘90s.
“All of Us Strangers” made its world premiere at the 50th Telluride Film Festival in the fall, played at the New York Film Festival, and is scheduled to be released in the United Kingdom on January 26, 2024, by Searchlight Pictures. Given that date is still afield, Searchlight has released a new international trailer for the movie.
Here’s the official synopsis:
One night in his near-empty tower block in contemporary London, Adam (Andrew Scott) has a chance encounter with a mysterious neighbor, Harry (Paul Mescal), which punctures the rhythm of his everyday life. As a relationship develops between them, Adam is preoccupied with memories of the past and finds himself drawn back to the suburban town where he grew up and the childhood home where his parents (Claire Foy and Jamie Bell) appear to be living, just as they were on the day they died, 30 years before.
Written and directed by Haigh, the movie is produced by Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, and Sarah Harvey.
“All Of Us Strangers” premieres in North America on December 22, and you’ll likely see it on many best-of-year-end lists. Watch the new trailer below.
