Ryan Murphy Thinks It's "Gross" To Cover Lewinsky/Clinton Scandal For 'American Crime Story'

Ryan Murphy has definitely found his niche in anthology programming. The creator of “American Horror Story” and “Feud” is also the mastermind behind FX’sAmerican Crime Story,” which quickly gained critical-acclaim and tons of awards for its first season documenting the OJ Simpson trial. With the second season, covering the killing of fashion designer Versace, recently finished, everyone has been wondering what’s upcoming in the series. We have some answers, and it apparently isn’t what was originally expected.

While we know that the third season of “American Crime Story” is said to revolve around Hurricane Katrina and has already begun production, the fourth season was still in the planning stages. It was originally announced that ‘Crime Story’ planned to focus on the Monica Lewinsky/Bill Clinton scandal from the ‘90s for its fourth season. However, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Murphy says that the plans for the Lewinsky season have been scrapped, and the creator actually told Lewinsky the news, himself.

“I told her, ‘Nobody should tell your story but you, and it’s kind of gross if they do,'” Murphy said. “‘If you want to produce it with me, I would love that; but you should be the producer and you should make all the goddamn money.'”

The report goes on to say that Murphy and his ‘Crime Story’ crew are working to figure out what’s next for the series after the Katrina season, looking at some timely stories. Murphy has been known to tackle some controversial topics on his shows, with zero fear. The most recent season of “American Horror Story” looked at the 2016 Presidential election for its inspiration, for example. Perhaps, there’s another political scandal that Murphy would like to tackle. Lord knows, there’s enough in the news right now for multiple seasons.

There’s no word yet on when “American Crime Story” will return for its third season.
