Race relations in the United States is pretty terrible, at the moment. Honestly, you could argue that racism has obviously never gone away, but might be at a high right now that we haven’t seen in decades. And Netflix is hoping to take this on directly in the upcoming drama, “American Son.”
As seen in the trailer for the film, “American Son” tells the story of a mother of a missing boy that is trying to figure out what happened to her teenage son, while speaking to the cops at a South Florida police station. The film tackles race and recent issues surrounding police through the eyes of a Black woman attempting to raise a mixed-race son. As you might guess, this isn’t going to be a light affair, as the film is most definitely going to pull no punches as it dissects the issues at hand.
“American Son” stars Kerry Washington, Steven Pasquale, Jeremy Jordan, and Eugene Lee. The film is based on the play of the same name by Christopher Demos-Brown, and it is directed by Kenny Leon, who won the Best Director Tony Award for his work on the play “A Raisin in the Sun.”
“American Son” arrives on Netflix on November 1.
Here’s the synopsis:
