With Lone Scherfig breaking out with "An Education" in 2009 and discovering a star in Carey Mulligan, it made it all the more disappointing when she returned two years later with the relatively limp rom-com "One Day." It took a bit off our shine for the helmer, but we're still interested to see what's she got cooking up next. Last year, she signed on to the historical drama "Music and Silence," but considering how hard it is to get anything that isn't a blockbuster or can't sell toys to kids, we're not surprised there hasn't been much movement on that. But this looks like someting that could develop a bit faster.
Scherfig will take the helm of "My Life In Orange," an adaptation of the memoir by Tim Guest. It's a fascinating true story of a man, who at the age of six was brought by his mother to a commune where they both joined a group of devotees under the eccentric Indian guru Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh. Practicing a bizarre strain and melange of Eastern mysticism, they followed the Rajneesh around the world as he preached sexual freedom (don't they all) and chaotic therapy all while he used money to collect Rolls Royces. Needless to say, the group eventually collapsed and suddenly, an adult Tim found himself out in the world. He would eventually pass away at the age of 34 from a morphine overdose.
Ruby Films is producing with Focus Features International reteaming with Scherfig to finance and distribute the pic. It's in development, but it looks like this one has taken priority for the helmer. [Screen Daily]
