Already the new Captain America, following the events of “The Falcon & The Winter Soldier,” and also the new face of the live-action video game adaptation “Twisted Metal,” actor Anthony Mackie is still looking for more. While speaking with Total Film to promote the second season of “Twisted Metal,” the actor, who is set to star in “Captain America: Brave New World” next year, isn’t apparently satisfied with his action credits and is setting his sights on joining the “John Wick” franchise.
Mackie said he is hopeful he can convince the franchise’s lead to give him a shot. “I’m trying to get Keanu Reeves to consider me for ‘John Wick 5’ or [‘John Wick 6’].”
“I think that will make me a cool dad if I had, like, a five-minute fight scene with Keanu Reeves,” he continued. “I’m gonna put up a fight! [Pro wrestler] Samoa Joe punched me in the face in this [Twisted Metal], and I did not go down! “
One of the writers assembled for “The Falcon & The Winter Soldier” included “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad, with directors Chad Stahelski and Dave Leitch doing second unit work on “Captain America: Civil War.” So, there are some semi-related links between the Marvel and ‘Wick’ franchises. The future of ‘John Wick is a little murkier as the character seemingly died off-screen; however, John will be making a glorious return in the spinoff film “Ballerina,” which takes place between the events of “John Wick 3” and “John Wick 4.”
Thunder Road, the produces of the “Wick” films is behind “Ballerina” starring Ana de Armas (playing Rory, a ballerina-trained assassin from John’s adoptive family, The Ruska Roma) and Norman Reedus that is undergoing reshoots with newly minted franchise overseer Stahelski involved with those new scenes are being shot and is putting together “Boondock Saints 3” (also stars Reedus) with longtime director Troy Duffy stepping down.
Mackie’s next MCU installment, “Captain America: Brave New World,” will undergo some reshoots soon. Its release date is set for February 14, 2025.
