It has been quite a while since we heard the name Antwone Fisher, though it seems like the writer/producer has plans to make another foray into film in the near future.
Fisher made waves nearly ten years ago, when his autobiographical bestseller “Finding Fish” caught the eye of Denzel Washington, who went on to make the award winning film “Antwone Fisher.” Most recently, he released a self-help book entitled “A Boy Should Know How to Tie a Tie: And Other Lessons for Succeeding in Life.” The acclaimed author, poet, lecturer, college professor, movie producer and screenwriter now hopes to add documentarian to the list as Fisher has announced plans to direct a documentary about the life of entrepreneur and philanthropist Leon T. Garr.
Based on the book “The Millionaire Chronicle: Let’s Go to Work!,” the film will explore the career of Garr, who over the last 60 years parlayed his holdings and assets from a small contracting company in his hometown of Louisana into the chairmanship of the largest African-American owned bank in Southern California. At the age of 96, Garr is still active in his community along with the business world in Los Angeles.
Garr had some kind words for Fisher after hearing about the collabration stating, “I’m elated that a Hollywood personality of the stature of Antwone Fisher is willing to use his extraordinary talents on a film project that will expose a much wider audience to my journey from builder to banker.” No word yet on when production is slated to begin. —Aaron Fowler
