2024 may end up a banner year in horror thanks to “Nosferatu,” “MaXXXine,” “Cuckoo,” “I Saw The TV Glow,” and “In A Violent Nature.” But Paramount is banking one of its premier genre entries will find an audience on its streamer, Paramount+. That’s right, the “Rosemary’s Baby” prequel “Apartment 7A” will premiere on the streamer instead of a theatrical release. A curious move considering it’s a star vehicle for “Ozark” actress Julia Garner, but one that doesn’t foretell the film doing poorly. This film could very well be what “Prey” was in 2022: a sturdy genre entry that gains a following through strong reviews and word of mouth.

“Relic” director Natalie Erika James helms “Apartment 7A,” which takes place before the events of Roman Polanski‘s 1968 film. Set in 1965, Garner stars as a young dancer struggling after a devastating injury who takes up an offer from a peculiar, well-connected, older couple to move into an apartment: the same apartment Rosemary Woodhouse moves into years later.
“Apartment 7A” also stars Dianne Wiest, Jim Sturgess, and Kevin McNally. Marli Siu, Andrew Buchan, Rosy McEwen, and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith round out the main cast.
“”Apartment 7A” is the perfect way to kick off the Halloween season,” said Jeff Grossman, Paramount+’s executive vice president of Programming. “Director Natalie Erika James and the prodigious creative team have crafted a chilling and clever new entry into the genre.”
Stay tuned for an official premiere date for “Apartment 7A” on Paramount+ this Fall. As for Ms. Garner, her horror career continues with Zach Cregger‘s “Weapons,” which starts shooting next month.
