‘Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom’ Trailer: Jason Momoa Returns To Save His Son & Kingdom

This year has really been an odd (and ultimately bad) year for DC superhero films. Even when you take the quality of the products out of the picture, the box office results from each DC superhero film from this year (including “Shazam! Fury of the Gods,” “The Flash,” and “Blue Beetle”) has been abysmal. Of course, this is to be expected when you announce last year that the current crop of DC films are going to be inconsequential because a full reboot is on its way. People tend to lose interest. But hey, perhaps DC will go out with a bang when the upcoming “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” arrives next month.

With a month left until it hits theaters, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” has finally released a new trailer, highlighting a bit more of the story we can expect with the sequel. The film continues the story of Arthur Curry, aka Aquaman, once again played by Jason Momoa. Now a dad, Aquaman has to defend his family and his kingdom from Black Manta and a mysterious new force. Will he save the day? Who’s going to die? Ultimately, again, it doesn’t appear that any of it matters, considering we already have confirmation that Jason Momoa won’t be returning as Aquaman in a future film. So, yeah, oh well.

Momoa leads the cast, which includes Patrick Wilson, Amber Heard, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Kidman, and Dolph Lundgren. James Wan returns as director, working from a script written by David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick.

“Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” hits theaters on December 22. You can watch the new trailer below.

Here’s the synopsis:

Having failed to defeat Aquaman the first time, Black Manta, still driven by the need to avenge his father’s death, will stop at nothing to take Aquaman down once and for all. This time Black Manta is more formidable than ever before, wielding the power of the mythic Black Trident, which unleashes an ancient and malevolent force. To defeat him, Aquaman will turn to his imprisoned brother Orm, the former King of Atlantis, to forge an unlikely alliance. Together, they must set aside their differences in order to protect their kingdom and save Aquaman’s family, and the world, from irreversible destruction.
